Carver Bancorp, Inc. (CARV)
Current Price: $10,00
Target Price: $50.00
Upside Potential: 400%
Market Cap: $37 million
Shares Outstanding: 3.7 million
Float: 1.35 million
The recent Black Lives Matter movement has caused a wave of support in the stock market for black-owned businesses. This has been most apparent in Urban One, Inc. (UONE), which has seen its stock move from less than $1.00 to as high as $40 while trading in the $20's in Thursday afternoon action. Carver Bancorp, Inc. (CARV) makes the best sympathy play to this movement and we think it could spike at high as $50 if it follows through with a similar kind of move as UONE. Though a price of $20 would be a good start. This Yahoo article called ‘Buying Black’ Spurs Huge Gains in Carver Bank, Urban One Shares shows how deeply tied the companies are in the eyes of the market at this time.
Data on UONE is inconsistent, but reviewing its latest financials shows that 38 million class D common shares (the ones tied to the UONE symbol) plus several million more series of shares. This puts its market cap in the $400 million range while trading in the $20's. Compare that to CARV, which has a mere $37 million market cap at $10 with only 3.7 million shares outstanding and a 1.35 million float. A $50 stock price on CARV would put it at a $185 million market cap. While very high based on fundamentals, this is still less than half of where UONE is now. If money is truly pouring in to support black businesses across the United States, this could be a growth opportunity for the bank that actually justifies a far higher valuation in the long term.
CARV has already exploded, trading up nearly 10x at Wednesday's open, but has retraced more than 50% to offer an ideal buy in opportunity as a sympathy play to UONE at around the $10 mark as of Thursday during the lunch hour. We expect a push up in the share price shortly.
